Facilitator: Janni Younge

Janni joined the KSDCT in 2002, bringing a background in psychology and theatre. Her journey into mindfulness was sparked by Rob Nairn’s approach to the psychology of Buddhism, leading her to deepen her practice through extensive courses and retreats with Rob Nairn, Berryl Schutten, and Donal Creedon. Recognizing her capacity, Rob invited Janni to begin facilitating introductory meditation classes, as well as sessions on practice-based topics that emphasize personal insight through meditation.

Building on this experience, Janni went on to facilitate mindfulness introduction courses and played a key role in designing the teacher training program for mindfulness facilitators at Mindfulness Africa. Her approach to mindfulness creates a warm, lightly interactive space where individuals can connect with their innate wisdom. She believes that each person is their own best teacher and that allowing the mind space and stillness to unfold leads to greater well-being and joy.

Meditation with Jackie Leone

Every Tuesday @ 7pm

The Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path

The first teachings that the Buddha gave were about the Four Noble Truths. These teachings are central to the wider Dharma, and it is deemed beneficial to re-visit them as we venture along the path.

We will see how ‘suffering’ is prevalent in our lives, how we tend to create our own unhappiness, and how we may better deal with life’s travails. The Eightfold Path provides a way forward, where we will find ways of living that will provide ease, and be beneficial to both ourselves and others, while revealing the brilliance within, and seeing the sacred and profound in our lives.

All are welcome to join, whether experienced practitioners, or those starting on the path.

Cost: Members: no cost; non-members R60 per evening

Meditation with Alistair Blair

The Role of Thought and its Relationship to Tranquility in Our Lives

Do we have a “deficiency of spirit”, as Ludwig Binswanger asked Freud once? Where has our questing lead us in the pursuit of material and familiar? Have we forgotten something along the way to material success?

We’ll look at teachings by Thrangu Rinpoche about Shamatha, calm abiding, meditation. Exploring the role of meditation in our lives and the world around us. Beginners and regular meditators are welcome.
