We are delighted that Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche, the Abbot of Samye Ling Monastery, Lama Katen, the Deputy Abbot, and Ani Lhamo will be visiting our Centre from 26 February to 4 March for five days of teaching, interviews and a Refuge Ceremony.

The Significance of this visit

  • Lama Yeshe Rinpoche as Abbott of Samye Ling oversees the Kagyu Africa Centers and Lama Katen as Deputy Abbott will assist him.

Lama Yeshe Rinpoche

Born in 1943 in Kham, East Tibet, Lama Yeshe Rinpoche spent his formative years in education at Dolma Lhakang Monastery where his brother, Akong Tulku Rinpoche, was Abbot. After a harrowing six month journey escaping from Tibet as a teenager in 1959, Lama Yeshe Rinpoche arrived in India along with Akong Rinpoche, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and a handful of other exhausted refugees. On leaving the Tibetan Refugee Camp he attended the Young Lamas Home School in Dalhousie and left in 1967 to serve as Private Secretary to His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa at Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim. Lama Katen

As a young boy in East Tibet, Lama Katen was given the auspicious name of Tsultrim Palbar by his maternal uncle, Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche. He learned to read and write Tibetan in his local village, but as there was no Monastery nearby he was unable to follow his natural inclination to become a monk. Read more

Ani Lhamo

Ani Lhamo is a fully ordained Buddhist nun, who has completed a four year cloistered retreat, and is an experienced teacher of meditation and Dharma courses. Currently working in adminstration at Samye Ling she has learnt how to integrate the peace and stability of meditation into her busy, working life.
